Let's Move in Kansas Schools!!
This summer I attended a workshop to become a certified DPA (Director of Physical Activity). The basis is to bring “Let’s Move in Schools” into our schools nationwide. My goal for incorporating more movement into our student's days are to bring “Brain Breaks” into the classroom.
Approximately 85% of school age children are predominately kinesthetic learners. Using movement in the learning process helps many children retain and retrieve information more efficiently. Physical activity prepares the brain for learning by providing a healthier body/brain that works more effectively. All things being equal, healthy active students can learn better.
Brain Breaks help students take a quick break and return to their work refreshed and ready to learn. They are designed to get more oxygen and energy to students’ brains, improve their focus, and calm their nervous systems. The result: increased motivation, cooperation, and learning in the classroom.

INTRAMURALS
Each year, after school Intramurals are offered for students in grades 3-6 from October through February. The purpose of Intramurals is to teach fundamental skills and work on lead up games and activities to better prepare students for junior high sports. Girls Volleyball begins in October, Boys and Girls Basketball is in the months of December-February. A schedule of practices will be available when the season begins, and practices are from 3:30-5:00. Volleyball is held in conjunction with Wamego Parks and Rec, and our teams play in area tournaments. Basketball is not attached to Wamego Parks and Rec, and there are no games or tournaments, only after school practices. All intramurals activities are FREE!! More information will be available as the season approaches.

About your teacher.........

Ms. Schneider, PE Teacher
I have been teaching P.E. at St. George Elementary for 19 years. I also coach high school volleyball and junior high track at Rock Creek. I love my job because I love working with children of all ages, and see them move, be active, smile, learn new skills, laugh, excel, and push themselves harder than they thought possible. I enjoy staying active too, and try to run with my dog Chevy several times a week. I also play volleyball and softball in my free time. I enjoy and have run various races: 2 mile, 5k, 10k, 10 mile, two 1/2 Marathons and a full Marathon. My son Ryan is a 10th grader at Rock Creek High School this year and is very active in sports and school activities.
Well....better run...........
